Good evening! This is sou7. Due to my busy schedule, I’ve decided to switch to weekly updates from now on. Today, among the many developments, I will introduce the Makasa Railway. The previous update was Day 18 of the Nanasaba 1st Season Development Diary.

Makasa Railway

Makasa Railway (commonly known as Matetsu) is a company established by the player Takanyan. It connects the capital, Masaba City, with Makasa City in the Southwest Region. Its route competes directly with the National Railways’ Makasa Main Line.

The division of services between the National Railways’ Makasa Main Line and the Matetsu main line is as follows:

  • Regular passengers
    • Because the National Rail line is faster, most passengers use it.
  • Budget passengers
    • The Matetsu line offers lower fares, so it attracts these travelers.
  • Mail
    • Since the Matetsu line does not handle mail, postal shipments use the National Railways’ Makasa Main Line.

In this way, complex passenger flows are created based on mail, passengers, and their respective fares. This is a unique and fascinating feature of Simutrans-Extended.

Tando Nishizumi Station

The Masaba-side terminus of the Matetsu line is Tando Nishizumi Station. It connects with the Tando Nishizumi Line as introduced in Tando Nishizumi Line. Although the station is located where it meets the National Rail line, it appears that there is no corresponding station on the National Rail side. Perhaps they just don’t get along.

West Haruho Station

Over the past week, the area around Haruho City has seen significant development. A National Rail freight line has been constructed on the seaside, while the Matetsu line has been built on the mountain side. In the future, we hope to fill in the inner bay to transform it into a vast industrial zone reminiscent of Tokyo Bay!

Mihano Station

From Haruho heading south, the National Rail line and the Matetsu line run parallel, engaging in a constant dead heat of overtaking one another.

Around Arisa Station

After Benten Town Station, the line heads west until it reaches Hareba. In this section, the National Rail line and the Matetsu line are built separately, and several new towns have been established across the expansive plain.

On the right side of the screen, running along the north, is the Matetsu line; on the left side, running along the south, is the National Rail line.

Matetsu Hareba Station

Hareba City has rapidly developed, with the town expanding even to the east side of the National Rail line. Compared to Hareba Station, it’s clear that the urban area has grown significantly. The Matetsu line has stations placed at much shorter intervals within the urban area, aiming to attract more passengers by providing better convenience than the National Rail line.

Hangashira Central Station

In Extended, development speeds vary among cities. Hangashira City has developed rapidly and now boasts the second-largest population in Nana-Iro Country after Ryugu, even surpassing the capital, Masaba City. This raises some questions about whether such growth is appropriate.

While the National Rail line has only three stations in Hangashira City, the Matetsu line has as many as seven.

Hon-Makasa Station

The terminus on the Makasa side is Hon-Makasa Station. It was built on the southwest side of the urban area.

This update marks my first in a while, and due to my busy schedule, I plan to update once a week for the time being. Until next time, please look forward to Week 5 of the Nanasaba 1st Season Development Diary!
